We are looking for new volunteers to join the current teams.
No experience is necessary for any of our volunteer roles, we are looking for a range of skills which will complement the volunteers we have helping us already.
There are opportunities for everyone and anyone to become involved, there are no barriers to volunteering and we advocate diversity and inclusion.
People often don’t realise that they have the skills and talents we are looking for, our needs are diverse and accommodating to all. So, we thought we would give people the opportunity to find out more about what we have to offer by holding two Volunteer Recruitment Open Days. The dates are Saturday 17th February 2024 and Saturday 2nd March 2024, both days 10am – 2pm. We would love to meet any one who feels they would like to become involved and give some time, energy and expertise to help our village museum and mill have fresh ideas and contributions.
Much as we are open on Saturdays and Sundays for half the year, we need volunteers on other days of the week too to help with the maintenance, repair and upkeep, both inside and outside. We are also looking for volunteers who can help during our special larger events which are held once a month throughout the year to assist our trustees in setting up, running and derigging these events.
Front of house is also an area we need more volunteers, hosting our visitors and ensuring all visits are friendly engaging, informative and bring to life living in a village such as Burwell, living in a fen edge village.
We would also like to recruit a Trustee Treasurer so if you have experience using Xero, Zettle, financial management and business banking, then please do contact or meet with us.
We will be opening access to our observatory this year so if you love gazing at the stars and planets and would like to inspire and educate others into this domain the please do contact us. The telescope engineering is deemed as truly outstanding. We are very proud to have been the recipient of this from the estate of Barrie Bushell.
And finally, we need help to engage and expand reach on social media channels, and improve our promotion of the museum, mill and our forge too as well as events and activities. So please contact us of you feel you can help with this.
The opportunities are endless and you may be able to offer something to us which we have never thought of! You do not need to live in Burwell, we have volunteers from far and wide across our region who join us to be a part of this unique opportunity and gain experience second to none.
So do come along on our open days, or contact us via our email, social channels or the form on the Become a Volunteer page. We look forward to meeting you.
Here is the story of one of our volunteers.
Andrew’s Story
I started volunteering at the Museum over 10 years ago and it has been one of the most formative, enjoyable and best experiences of my life. It has given me skills, knowledge and experience to succeed in life when I had left university due to ill health, without a qualification. I now head the mill team and have also recently become a trustee. I am now managing a team of volunteers who I have been part of for so long. It brings me great joy to see the museum and mill being run so well by dedicated volunteers and trustees, some give a couple of hours a week / month, some are involved on a daily basis but we are all united by one thing which is to enable to see the museum and windmill flourish. I am a proud ambassador to be part of such a village asset. I am really looking forward to 2024 and action the developments we all work together to achieve to improve the museum and the mill and take both into the future to educate across all generations of visitors it has been a privilege to be a part of the museum.’
